Stan Woodard
"Within a screen of water bottles, a scene of a urine stream entering a toilet bowl then transitioning to an arboreal stream, represents cycles of consumption and redistribution." —Stan Woodard Originally from New York state, Stan Woodard has had a career of over 15 years of art in Atlanta. His work of art is very strongly related and influenced by the Arte Povera movement from the 60’s and the Fluxus from the 50’s. Woodard’s use of what he calls impoverished materials interests him as a way to “break down the hierarchies of art and common things.” This media along with video allows him certain freedoms and flexibility. In Stream to Stream the water bottles were not found, or relocated, but purchased over a period of 3 years. Instead of being thrown away as trash after emptying their content, he gave them a new meaning. Now these 2600 water bottles serve as part of a whole multimedia installation. —Text by Penny Aviles, ed. LA
