The Solution

Conceived and completed during the days following the presidential election, this six painting series mirrors my sense of gratitude for the possibility of positive change. I was also inspired by illuminated medieval prayer books like The Belles Heures of the Duke of Berry. These small books made the path to salvation visible with illustrations of parables, miracles, angelic messengers and the possibility of divine intervention in human affairs, like stained glass windows you could hold in your hand.

Each of my paintings is based on a photograph I took specifically for this series. My goal was to create images that reflect my experience that faith is a verb; an action taken rather than an emotion felt. These paintings - Connect, Meet, Call, Read, Steps, Progress—are a sequence of actions that mark a path to transformation. They represent contemporary spiritual instruction and a distillation of the process of recovery.
