Much of my work is based on the idea of a lantern or lamp. The encaustic paintings and cast lantern forms developed out of a struggle to diminish fear and negativity, representing for me the idea that in order to banish internal darkness one must create light.

The very small encaustic pieces emerged from studying images of water crystals and thinking about the meaning of water—adaptable, relentless, complex, vital to life and as a common element connecting all of humanity. Some of the small pieces in this series also function as vows or promises made to myself.
