My Animal Voids project stems from a suspicion that the proliferation of cutesy animals in pop culture is somehow intimately connected with theparallel extinction of wild animals in real ecosystems. I intend the Animal Voids to be disquieting and funny, portraits of mediated, distracted consciousness in endangered places.

The Voidvideos elaborate the Animal Voids' narrative mythology in serialized minimovie form. Later installments in the series include moving video footage: in this case, descending chandeliers in Avery Fisher Hall, and ferry lights on the Hudson River. I experimented with hunters’ paper targets and museum dioramas as representations of strange human ideas about animals. In Voidthrobber and Past, Present, Future, you'll also see sideways references to the pastoral traditions of Swiss papercutting.

It's tremendous fun producing these little stories. For most of them, the sound comes from my own voice, sometimes humming & sometimes sort of chanting, overtone style. I've also occasionally used the prerecorded instrumental loops in Garage Band – there's something definitely Voidlike about these performer-free sounds.
