My works incorporate conceptually personal experiences and the psychological conflict that comes from inhabiting the intersection of two different cultures: Korean and American. When I moved to the U.S as a “foreigner,” I was able to observe different aspects of two environments. This has encouraged me to explore my identity and the surroundings from a unique point of view.

The work, Take Out Good Luck, is a series of drawings with monoprints on brown paper envelopes. The work shows Buddhist symbols that represent Buddhist message and wish for good luck. Inspired by the cultural idea, I used brown envelopes or boxes, often used in our daily life for delivery or take-out orders, to symbolically encourage a viewer to take out all wishes, good luck and the lessons of the Buddhist sutra.
