Throughout the history of mankind, icon imagery has been the most efficient (albeit relative) form of communication. Iconography has been used through the ages as worship images to deities or saints and nowadays as branding marks for economic producers. I’ve always gravitated toward iconic images—the gesture lines within the shape of movement, creating a stoic pose that suggests power at rest. It’s the juxtaposition of this contented power with the female deity that has caused a slight obsession within me. Parallel from that fascination, through the suggestions and encouragement of friends and artist colleagues, I’ve built a world of my imagination, a “happy place,” a sanctuary in my mind. The cute and cartoonish component in my work reflects on my attraction to the kawaii. It is something I can’t explain in words except only to say that it feeds my inner child, the keeper of my life’s passions. I’ve integrated elements of the ethereal and mysterious iconographic images with cuteness into my work. The images and deities I’ve created in my work serves to help manifest this bunny-ful, ice cream filled, Tolkien-esque world.
